What are negative points about internship after MBBS in India?
I had a really bad experience in my internship which points to the negative points of internship after MBBS.
I dont know about all colleges , but i definitely know ,that this is the scenario in most of the colleges:-
1.Taking blood samples and i/v cannula insertion .
Wherever you will go ,you will just be asked to withdraw blood samples from patients,(except spm- where immunization of newborns and rabies immunization is done by interns , which still makes some sense).but village visits in spm- is a total waste of time
In surgery, applying sutures is the only thing to do besides urinary catheter and ryle's tube(also done in medicine)
In ortho- blood samples , assisting 1st year PG in splints and minor work, awakening him in night emergency when patient arrives and he is asleep.
In gynae-blood samples, BP checking in pregnant ladies, applying episiotomy stiches (rarely), removing c section sutures.
In paeds- make slips(no work) ,except taking newborn's measurements , checking oxygen saturation levels of newborns in NICU and in night emergency when resident sleeps and intern awakens him whenever any patients arrive.
In medicine- blood samples, ryle's tube insertion
blood pressure checking
Urinary catheter insertion
In all opds registering names of patients
And the most important part , BRINGING SAMOSA from canteen in lunch breaks for residents and doctors( is intern a delivery boy?)
THERE IS NO FOCUS ON TEACHING INTERNS ABOUT WHAT THEY ARE MEANT TO BE TAUGHT IN INTERNSHIP YEAR, LIKE HOW TO MANAGE ANY EMERGENCY CASE., Work book is signed assuming all the things mentioned there be done. This is the worst part.
Time is wasted as hell ,these procedures can be TAUGHT in just 1 month time, interns also has to prepare for PG ENTRANCE, which is the most crucial part. This needs to be changed.
